Feast of the Epiphany
Evening High Mass at 7:30 pm, Tuesday 6 January. Note that there will me no 9:00 am Mass on this day.
On this great feast day, the Church celebrates three epiphania—‘showings forth’—of Our Lord:
Hodie caelesti sponso juncta est Ecclesia, quoniam in Jordane lavit Christus ejus crimina: currunt cum muneribus magi ad regales nuptias, et ex aqua facto vino laetantur convivae alleluia.
Today the Church is joined to her celestial spouse, because in Jordan Christ doth wash her sins; the Magi hasten with gifts to the royal marriage-feast, and the guests exult in the water turned to wine. Alleluia.
[Antiphon to the Benedictus at the office of Lauds.]
Tribus miraculis ornatum diem sanctum colimus: hodie stella Magos duxit ad praesepium: hodie vinum ex aqua factum est ad nuptias: hodie in Jordane a Joanne Christus baptizari voluit, ut salvaret nos, alleluia.
We keep our Holy Day adored with three miracles: today a star led the Magi to the crib, today wine was made from water at the marriage, today in Jordan Christ willed to be baptized by John to save us. Alleluia.
[Antiphon to the Magnificat at Second Vespers.]
