40 Days for Life 2012 Campaign

The campaign started last Wednesday and runs until Sunday, November 4. We encourage you to take part in two ways:

  • By offering to God forty days of prayer and fasting, seeking His blessings for an end to abortion in Canada.
  • By committing to an hour or more of silent prayer vigil outside BC Women’s Hospital, at the corner of West 29th Avenue and Heather Street, Vancouver. Holy Family Parish is responsible for the 24 hours of Saturday, October 6.

Thank you for helping with this very important endeavour to end abortion in Canada.

Vancouver Traditional Mass Society annual general meeting

The Vancouver Traditional Mass Society will hold its annual general meeting on Sunday, October 21, at Holy Family Parish hall following the 10:30 a.m. High Mass.

Our guest speaker will be Dr. Michael P. Foley, whose topic will be “What the Traditional Latin Mass Can Teach the World.” Michael Foley holds a doctorate in Catholic systematic theology and is an associate professor of Patristics in the Great Texts Program at Baylor University in Texas. He has published many scholarly articles as well as more popular pieces that have appeared in periodicals such as First Things and The Latin Mass magazine. He has also edited or authored several books, including Why Do Catholics Eat Fish on Friday? The Catholic Origin to Just About Everything (Palgrave Macmillan, 2005). A southern California native of Irish and French Canadian descent, Dr. Foley now lives in Waco, Texas, with his wife, Alexandra, and their six children. He is the Master of Ceremonies for the celebration of the Traditional Latin Mass at his local parish.

Dr. Foley’s talk will follow a short business meeting and the election of members of the Executive Committee, two activities required annually of a provincial charitable organization. Should anyone desire to become more involved in the work of our lay organization by becoming a member of the executive, please speak to or phone Margie Mackey at 604-506-4626, Frank Chow at 604-435-4894, or David Reid at 604-929-7162 by Sunday, October 7, which is the deadline set by our organization’s statutes.

Only members may vote, so this is a reminder to those of you who have yet to renew your memberships (and to those who have yet to become members) to contact Frank Chow, our membership chairman, at the number above, by email, or after any Sunday High Mass in order to do so. Membership forms are available in the vestibule of Holy Family Church and can also be downloaded from here. On the day of the AGM, memberships will be accepted only after the meeting has adjourned.

A light lunch of coffee and sandwiches will be provided. If you plan to attend, please sign up on the sheet in the vestibule of Holy Family Church, or let us know by email.
