Gaudete Sunday raffle and silent auction

Gaudete Sunday is on December 15, and once again theVancouver Traditional Mass Society is requesting donations of new or as-new items for our annual silent auction. All funds raised from the auction and the raffle will go to the support of Canadian seminarians at Our Lady of Guadalupe Seminary. Lightly used items are requested as this is not a flea market. You can give your donated items to Margie Mackey (604 506-4626) or one of the Fathers.

There will be several items auctioned this year by live auction, so the day promises to be a lot of fun for a very worthwhile cause!

Also, tickets for the Gaudete Sunday raffle are now on sale. Please pick up tickets sheets for yourself or to sell to friends. The raffle grand prize is a framed limited edition print called Golden Surf Seascape by Delta artist Fred Buchwitz. The other two prizes are a smaller framed print and a gift basket with a bottle of red wine, a bottle of white wine, a box of chocolates, a $150 gift card for Milestones or several other restaurants.

Perennial Philosophy Classes 1: Introduction to Thomistic Philosophy

Join us on four consecutive Thursday evenings in learning Thomistic philosophy, which the Code of Canon Law calls the Church’s “philosophical patrimony that is perennially valid.” We will be learning (1) why the Church has always endorsed Thomistic philosophy, (2) a brief survey of the history of philosophy, and (3) the errors of Modern philosophy (and their effects on our daily lives), and we will get started on the first steps to sound philosophy: Logic and Philosophy of Nature.

This series of four lectures by Fr. Anthony Uy, FSSP, is for beginners who would like to learn more about good philosophy, which is the foundation of a solid theology. Suggested donation is $20. Classes will be held in the school building at Holy Family Parish from 7 to 8:30 p.m. from November 28 to December 19. For more information, please call 604-875-8414 or email

Children’s clothing swap

… on Sunday, December 1, after the High Mass. Prior to Mass, please bring clothes and shoes for babies and children up to children’s size 16, and leave them on the tables on the stage in the hall.

The idea is that you leave what you no longer need and take what you do need. This is a free exchange. No adult clothing please. At the end of the swap, if you see that things you brought are still there, please take them back.

We hope to hold this at least two times a year. Questions? Just email Vikki-Michele Freckleton at
