On Sunday 12 September, Barbara Spencer, president of the non-profit organization Care for Kids La Paz, will give a talk in the church hall after the 10:30 am High Mass. Care for Kids La Paz is dedicated to improving the lives of children and their families in La Paz, Mexico. The presentation will focus on how the charity got started and on the work it is doing—serving breakfast to almost 100 children and giving scholarships to dedicated students with good grades—in a small, impoverished community on the outskirts of La Paz.

Longtime parishioners may remember Barbara, who spoke to the Latin Mass community on several occasions at Holy Spirit Church in New Westminster during our time as Divine Mercy Parish.

Fraser Valley Mass to move in October

In consultation with the Superiors of the FSSP, the 4:30 pm Mass at Saint Ann’s in Abbotsford will be discontinued in October in favour of an earlier Mass time in nearby Aldergrove, at 1:00 pm, under the care of Father William Ashley, newly appointed pastor of the parish of Saints Joachim and Ann. The last regular Mass in Abbotsford will be on Sunday 26 September. The first Mass in Aldergrove will be celebrated on 3 October.

The Priestly Fraternity of Saint Peter has been pleased to serve the needs of the faithful attached to the traditional Latin Mass in the Fraser Valley, and will make itself available for any future need.

This Sunday, we celebrate the Assumption—the bodily taking up—of Mary into Heaven at the end of her earthly life. A traditional procession will be held in coordination with the 10:30 am Mass.

Domus Divinae Misericordiae

We are pleased to announce that His Grace, Archbishop Miller, has granted permission for the erection of a canonical house for the Priestly Fraternity of Saint Peter in the Archdiocese of Vancouver. It will be called Divine Mercy House. The establishment of this canonical house is in accordance with Canons 609 (par.1) and 733 of the 1983 Code of Canon Law.

In his letter, the Archbishop stated that ‘the Archdiocese of Vancouver is pleased with the ministry that is being offered generously by the priests of the FSSP in the Archdiocese’. Canonical house status gives more stability to the ministry of the FSSP as a religious institute in the Archdiocese. It also provides for a private oratory for the celebration of Mass and the reservation of the Most Blessed Sacrament. This is similar to the canonical arrangement with the Dominican House that exists the Archdiocese.

The formal Decretum Erectionis of the Superior General of the FSSP, Father John Berg, was received by Father Deprey this week.

Please take an opportunity to thank Archbishop Miller and pray for him.

FSSP / Legion of Mary Silent Retreat

The retreat begins with Mass at 9:00 am, and will include talks by Father Deprey, exposition of the Blessed Sacrament, opportunity for Confession, Benediction, Legion of Mary prayers and Rosary. The retreat concludes at 3:00 pm. Sponsored by the Legion of Mary Curia in co-operation with the Priestly Fraternity of Saint Peter.

Because of the BC Day holiday, Masses on Monday, August 2, will be at 7:30 a.m. and 9 a.m. There will be no evening Mass on this day.

Due to renovation work at Holy Family Church, the 9 a.m. Mass is cancelled each Tuesday and Thursday throughout the month of August. We apologize for this inconvenience.

There will be no 7:30 a.m. Mass on Saturday, August 7. After the 9 a.m. Mass, there will be Exposition and Benediction of the Most Blessed Sacrament with Marian devotions.
