The Priestly Fraternity of Saint Peter has produced a lovely 2012 liturgical calendar featuring the sacred art of Giotto, but we only have a limited number of them left. Don’t miss out: get yours from the parish office. Only $10.

Donations through Project Advance

Project Advance donations may be made online, through the donations link on our parish website. Just choose Holy Family Vancouver when the link opens to the Project Advance page. This year Holy Family has received $62,745 in pledges from 95 donors! Monies over and above the Archdiocesan assessment of $17,600 will be retained by the Parish. Thank you for your generosity.

Domus Divinae Misericordiae

We are pleased to announce that His Grace, Archbishop Miller, has granted permission for the erection of a canonical house for the Priestly Fraternity of Saint Peter in the Archdiocese of Vancouver. It will be called Divine Mercy House. The establishment of this canonical house is in accordance with Canons 609 (par.1) and 733 of the 1983 Code of Canon Law.

In his letter, the Archbishop stated that ‘the Archdiocese of Vancouver is pleased with the ministry that is being offered generously by the priests of the FSSP in the Archdiocese’. Canonical house status gives more stability to the ministry of the FSSP as a religious institute in the Archdiocese. It also provides for a private oratory for the celebration of Mass and the reservation of the Most Blessed Sacrament. This is similar to the canonical arrangement with the Dominican House that exists the Archdiocese.

The formal Decretum Erectionis of the Superior General of the FSSP, Father John Berg, was received by Father Deprey this week.

Visit of Father Ryan

Father Charles Ryan, the former pastor of the Traditional Latin Mass community of Vancouver, Divine Mercy Parish (2000–2007), will visit Holy Family on Sunday 10 May. This is Father Ryan’s first visit since our move to Holy Family.

Father Ryan is currently vice-rector of Our Lady of Guadalupe Seminary in Denton, Nebraska. He will preach at both morning Masses, and will celebrate the 10:30 Mass. Following this Mass, we will have a potluck lunch in his honour in the parish hall.

Schedule change: Thursday 26 March

The 9:00 am Mass on Thursday 26 March is cancelled due to a special Mass for Traditional Learning Academy at Our Lady of Lourdes that morning.

The 7:30 am Mass will be celebrated as usual.

Date set for confirmations

Confirmations will take place Saturday 27 June, at 9:00 am, followed by Holy Mass and a potluck lunch in the parish hall. As reported earlier, the Archbishop has delegated Holy Family clergy to administer the confirmations.

First Communion and Confirmation updates

First Communion preparation

Children preparing for first Holy Communion should now begin to make their first confessions. First Holy Communion will take place on May 24th. Parents, please contact one of the priests with regard to preparations for first confession.

Confirmation

Archbishop Miller has indicated that due to conflicting schedules and a number of other circumstances, he must delegate faculties to the pastors of some parishes for Confirmation this year. For us this means that the Archbishop is unable to come to Holy Family, and that he will grant faculties to Father Deprey to do them in his absence. Parents, please contact the parish Office if you would like your son or daughter to receive the Sacrament of Confirmation this year; copies of Baptismal certificates will be needed. A date has not yet been set.

Confirmation

Candidates for Confimation should submit copies of Baptismal & First Holy Communion certificates as soon as possible. Confirmation will take place sometime in June or July (depending on the Archbishop’s schedule). Parents should register their sons or daughters as soon as possible. Candidates must be at least eleven years of age. Contact the Parish office to register.

First Confession & Holy Communion

All children having reached the age of reason (normally at seven years of age) should be preparing to make their First Confession. This should be done at least several weeks before First Holy Communion (preferably several months before). Please submit baptismal certificates for your children with regard to First Holy Communion, and register your children as soon as possible. We plan to have a special First Holy Communion Sunday 24 May. Contact the Parish office for more information.

Father Deprey will be away visiting family from 3–14 February inclusive. During his absence, our weekday Mass schedule will be modified as follows:

7:30 am & 7:30 pm Monday 2 February
7:30 am Tuesday 3 – Thursday 5 February
7:30 am & 7:30 pm Friday 6 February (1st Friday)
9:00 am Saturday 7 February (1st Saturday)
7:30 am Monday 9 – Friday 13 February
9:00 am Saturday 14 February

The Sunday schedule will not be changed.
