Stations of the Cross

Beginning 19 February, at 7:00 pm, and on all the Fridays in Lent, we will pray the Stations of the Cross according to the prayers composed by Saint Francis of Assisi, who suffered the stigmata for the glory of God and salvation of souls. The Stations will be followed by Low Mass.

Prayer of Consecration to the Holy Family

Jesus, our most loving Redeemer, Who having come to enlighten the world with Thy teaching and example, didst will to pass the greater part of Thy life in humility and subjection to Mary and Joseph in the poor home of Nazareth, thus sanctifying the Family that was to be an example for all Christian families, graciously receive our family as it dedicates and consecrates itself to Thee this day. Do Thou protect us, guard us and establish amongst us Thy holy fear, true peace and concord in Christian love: in order that by living according to the divine pattern of Thy family we may be able, all of us without exception, to attain to eternal happiness.

Mary, dear Mother of Jesus and Mother of us, by thy kindly intercession make this our humble offering acceptable in the sight of Jesus, and obtain for us His graces and blessings.

Saint Joseph, most holy Guardian of Jesus and Mary, help us by thy prayers in all our spiritual and temporal needs; that so we may be enabled to praise our divine Saviour Jesus, together with Mary and thee, for all eternity. Amen.

Conclude with Our Father, Hail Mary and Glory be three times.

Archconfraternity of Saint Stephen server guild

We are pleased to announce that with the gracious permission of Archbishop Miller, and the blessing of Cardinal Murphy O’Connor of Westminster, England, Holy Family Parish (Vancouver and Abbotsford) has been given official permission to revive the Archconfraternity of Saint Stephen server guild for the Traditional Latin Mass. The object of our Guild will be the sanctification of the server by teaching him the privilege of serving, the manner of observing the rites and ceremonies of the ‘Extraordinary Form’ of 1962, as well as the meaning and purpose of the sacred liturgy. The Guild was originally formed in March 1905 by Father Hamilton MacDonald, chaplain to the Sacred Heart Convent, Hammersmith, by permission of the Archbishop of Westminster, the late Cardinal Bourne, and was blessed by His Holiness Pope Pius X the following November. On 4 December 1906, the Holy Father erected the Guild into an archconfraternity prima primaria, having the power to affiliate to itself other similar guilds outside the Archdiocese of Wesminster in the British Isles. On 19 February 1934, His Holiness Pope Pius XI extended this privilege throughout the British Empire. Membership of the Guild is open to any male, without any limit of age, who can serve Mass, and who has shown proof of a desire to conform to the object of the Guild. After initial admission into the Sanctuary, the postulant will serve at least 6 months before being admitted to membership. After enrollment, the server is invested with the first Guild Medal.

The Guild will be a requirement for all servers at Holy Family in both Vancouver and Abbotsford. Parents, please encourage your boys to come forward to be a part of this new Archconfraternity. It is truly a privilege to serve the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass!

Legion of Mary Retreat

Beginning with Mass at 9:00 am, followed by the Consecration to Mary prayer by Saint Louis de Montfort. The retreat will include talks by Father Deprey, Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament, opportunity for confession, Benediction, Legion of Mary prayers and Rosary. The retreat concludes at 3:00 pm. Sponsored by the Legion of Mary Curia in co-operation with the Priestly Fraternity of Saint Peter. Open to all.

A prayer for priests

O Jesus, Eternal Priest, keep all Thy Priests within the shelter of Thy Sacred Heart, where none may harm them. Keep unstained their anointed hands which daily touch Thy Sacred Body. Keep pure and unearthly their hearts, sealed with the sublime mark of Thy glorious priesthood. Let Thy holy Love surround them and shield them from the world’s contagion. Bless their labours with abundant fruit, and may the souls to whom they have ministered be, here below, their joy and consolation and, in Heaven, their beautiful and everlasting crown. Amen.

O Mary, Mother of Our Saviour and our Heavenly Mother, pray for our Priests that they may be holy. Amen.

Divine Mercy, 29 April 2009

The Divine Mercy Chaplet will be sung during Exposition of the Bless Sacrament at Vespers, according to the traditional Polish melody. A plenary indulgence is available, under the usual conditions of Confession, Holy Communion and prayers for the Holy Father, for participating in Divine Mercy devotions on this octave day of Easter, which was instituted as Divine Mercy Sunday by Pope John Paul II.

Lenten Retreat for Youths and Young Adults

Saturday 21 March, beginning with Holy Mass at 9:00 am and concluding at 3:00 pm. This retreat is open to all ages from 12 to 30. Please bring clothing suitable for playing sports. Lunch will be potluck: please notify the parish of what you are able to bring.
