Homes are traditionally blessed during the Octave of Epiphany (6–13 January). The blessing is done with exorcised Epiphany Holy Water, blessed chalk, and exorcised incense (frankincense with myrrh).

Since for the most part we all live quite a distance from one another, priority will be given to homes that haven’t yet been blessed, then to those that have not been blessed in a very long time. We would like to group the blessings for regions—i.e. Vancouver, Coquitlam, Surrey, Abbotsford—on certain days insofar as this is possible .

Should the times available not be convenient fo ryou, we can always come by to bless your home later in the year with the regular blessing. Contact the Parish Office to book a day and time.

On Sunday 1 November last year, the children of our parish celebrated with an All Saints Parade. It was such a success that we have decided to have the parade again this year on Sunday 31 October. Parish families are all encouraged to participate. Children will parade in costume, make a short presentation about the saint of their choice, and then enjoy some snacks.

If you are interested in having your child participate, please call the parish office (t. 604 255 5026) or contact the clergy to be put in touch with the organisers. We also need volunteers to help organise this event.

The feast of the Holy Family, our patronal feast, falls on Sunday 10 January. The schedule of services will follow the regular Sunday schedule, and there will be a potluck celebration after the 10:30 am High Mass.

The parish will be providing ham for the potluck, so we ask those who will be attending to sign up on the sheet found in the foyer of the church, or contact the church office. Please provide your name, phone number, and the number of people coming with you so that we can provide enough ham for all. We ask that you bring enough other food to share, so there will be sufficient food for all.

Guest Speaker
Mr Pierre Lemieux, Conservative MP for the riding of Glengarry-Prescott-Russell (Ottawa), will give a talk at our Feast Day Potluck. He is a member of Saint Clement Parish in Ottawa (FSSP), and the only Member of Parliament who regularly attends the Traditional Latin Mass. He will speak about how his Catholic faith led him and his family into politics, and the opportunities that have arisen to defend and promote life, marriage, and family as an MP. The 30-minute talk will take place just after the meal, before or during dessert and coffee. We think you will find his presentation quite interesting. He will make himself available for questions afterwards.

We are pleased to announce that with the gracious permission of Archbishop Miller, and the blessing of Cardinal Murphy O’Connor of Westminster, England, Holy Family Parish (Vancouver and Abbotsford) has been given official permission to revive the Archconfraternity of Saint Stephen server guild for the Traditional Latin Mass. The object of our Guild will be the sanctification of the server by teaching him the privilege of serving, the manner of observing the rites and ceremonies of the ‘Extraordinary Form’ of 1962, as well as the meaning and purpose of the sacred liturgy. The Guild was originally formed in March 1905 by Father Hamilton MacDonald, chaplain to the Sacred Heart Convent, Hammersmith, by permission of the Archbishop of Westminster, the late Cardinal Bourne, and was blessed by His Holiness Pope Pius X the following November. On 4 December 1906, the Holy Father erected the Guild into an archconfraternity prima primaria, having the power to affiliate to itself other similar guilds outside the Archdiocese of Wesminster in the British Isles. On 19 February 1934, His Holiness Pope Pius XI extended this privilege throughout the British Empire. Membership of the Guild is open to any male, without any limit of age, who can serve Mass, and who has shown proof of a desire to conform to the object of the Guild. After initial admission into the Sanctuary, the postulant will serve at least 6 months before being admitted to membership. After enrollment, the server is invested with the first Guild Medal.

The Guild will be a requirement for all servers at Holy Family in both Vancouver and Abbotsford. Parents, please encourage your boys to come forward to be a part of this new Archconfraternity. It is truly a privilege to serve the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass!
