Epiphany of Our Lord, 2012

Friday 6 January 2011

7:30 am Low Mass
7:30 pm Solemn High Mass
A Holy Hour will follow the Mass, with Benediction at 10 pm.

The visit of the Magi

The Solemnity of the Epiphany commemorates three manifestations (Greek: epiphaneia) of the Divinity of Christ to man: to the Magi in Bethlehem, following His birth; to Saint John the Baptist at His Baptism; and to the Jews with His first public miracle at the wedding feast in Cana. All three of these manifestations are referenced in the Mass readings and divine office of the Church on this day, although the visit of the Magi is the major focus for Latin Catholics. In the Eastern Churches, where the feast is called the Theophany—‘divine manifestation’’—, the focus is on the revelation of Our Lord as the Messiah and Second Person of the Trinity at the time of His baptism. Feast of the Immaculate Conception

Immaculate ConceptionThursday, 8 December, 2011.
7:30 am Low Mass
7:30 pm High Mass
This feast is often misunderstood, even by practising Catholics. It does not refer to Our Lady’s conceiving of Jesus by the Holy Ghost (the Annunciation) but, rather, to the sinless conception of Our Lady in the womb of her mother, Saint Anne, by Our Lady’s father, Saint Joachim. Through a singular privilege of God, through the foreseen merits of Christ, Our Lady was preserved from original sin from the very moment of her own conception. What makes her conception ‘immaculate’ is not that she was conceived by the Holy Ghost of a virgin, as was Christ Our Lord, but that from the very moment of her own conception, she was preserved from the original sin and filled with grace by God, Who knew, in His omniscience, that she would say ‘Yes’ to the Angel Gabriel and become the Mother of the Saviour. Exactly nine months from now, on September 8, we will celebrate Our Lady’s birthday, the birthday of the one whom Saint Gabriel called ‘full of grace’ (Saint Luke 1:28).

Creation seminar, 16 November

Do the wonders of God’s creation stir your soul? Are you interested in sharing your faith with others? Do you understand how the concept of atheistic evolution impacts our society and the lives of the faithful? To shed light on these matters, you are invited to a presentation and follow-up discussion with Hugh Owen, founder of the Kolbe Centre for the Study of Creation, on Wednesday, November 16th at 7:00 pm in the hall.

The Kolbe Centre is a lay apostolate that seeks to educate the public, particularly within the Catholic Church, in the truth of creation as revealed in Sacred Scripture and Sacred Tradition and as confirmed by the findings of modern science.

Church Birthday, 13 November 2011

On Sunday, 13 November, we commemorate the dedication of our church by Archbishop Duke on Nov 14, 1948. This, then, is the birthday of our Church (Kirchweih) which we will celebrate as an External Solemnity at the High Mass on that Sunday. (The anniversary of such dedication is a First Class Feast). Our Church has served the needs of Catholics for 63 years now. Deo Gratias!

You’re invited to a celebratory lunch after the 10:30 Sunday Mass (around 12:30 pm) on Sunday, 13 November.

Please let us know if you will be coming, as we need to know how much food to prepare. A main dish & bread will be supplied but we will need salads, desserts, and side dishes. If you contribute a small dish, the meal is free. If you can’t cook, a monetary donation will be accepted (no-one will be turned away). For more details or to tell us that you plan to attend, please contact the clergy.
